  • What is the present population of your city or county?
  • Do you have permanent count stations installed in your jurisdiction? If “yes,” can you collect data via telemetry from any of your permanent counters? How do you decided where to place permanent counters? What type of technology do you presently use for your permanent count stations (e.g. inductive loops, pneumatic hoses, video
  • microwave)? What data do you typically obtain from your permanent counters (e.g., volume, speed, classification, weigh-in-motion)?
  • What type of technology do you presently use for your short-term counts (e.g., inductive loops, pneumatic hoses, video, microwave, manual)?
  • What data do you typically obtain from your short term counts: volume, speed, classification, weigh-in-motion?
  • What percentage of your counts do you have to repeat because of some technical problem associated with the counter?
  • How frequently does your agency have counts collected at specific locations?
  • How does your jurisdiction collect traffic counts (e.g., use dedicated agency staff, use agency staff that has other assigned duties, outsource to consultants)?
  • Please indicate the approximate amount of resources spent on your counting program per year.
  • How is your count data used (e.g., annual monitoring [volumes only or level of service], special studies, traffic growth projections, project prioritization, accident rate calculations)?
  • How do you test your counter equipment (e.g., in the field, with test equipment, no testing is done)?
  • Who completes quality control (QC) reviews of the data (e.g., staff engineer, in-office only engineering technician, field data collection engineering technician, consultant)?
  • What type of software do you use to QC traffic counts (please check all that apply)?
  • What inherent level of inaccuracy (error) would you say your traffic counts have on average (after any routine adjustments have been made)?
  • Who do you share your count data with (e.g., state, county, city, MPO, private entities)?
  • Are your count data available on your website?
  • Do you have any inter-local agreements that coordinate traffic count activities among agencies?
