High Gas Prices and Transportation Planning
Survey consists of responses from professionals at 26 organizations (city/county/state departments of transportation, metropolitan planning organizations, and transit agencies) regarding high gas prices and transportation planning. Topics/questions include:
- What is your affiliation?
- Has any reduction in vehicle miles traveled and/or traffic volumes recently been recorded in your urban area? If “yes” please indicate (if available) the approximate percentage reduction and over what period of time.
- Has any increase in transit passenger boardings recently been recorded in your urban area? If “yes” please indicate (if available) the approximate percentage increase and over what period of time.
- Has any increase in carpooling and/or vanpooling and/or telework recently been recorded in your urban area? If “yes” please indicate (if available) the approximate percentage increase and over what period of time.
- Do you believe any changes should be made to future transportation and land use plans and associated transportation infrastructure needs in your urban area due to high gas prices? If “yes” please describe changes.
- If any of the changes mentioned in previous questions have taken place in your urban area, what role do you believe the increase in gas prices has played in these changes?
- What do you believe transportation agencies can do in the shorter term to help commuters cope with higher gas prices?
