Smart Parking Services
This survey was published in Volume 23, Number 1 of the Urban Transportation Monitor on February 2, 2009
Survey consists of responses from five organizations that develop and market smart parking services. Questions/topics include:
- When did your service become operational?
- In which urban areas are you operational and in which urban areas will you be operational within the next year?
- Please provide examples of how many parking providers and spaces for rent you have in one or more of the cities where you are operational.
- Please provide a short description of your service. Please include information about payment methods, ability to extend a specific parking space rental while already parked in the space, etc.
- How can potential customers access your service and make a transaction (e.g. cell phone, Internet)?
- Do you provide directions for your customers to make it easy to find their parking space?
- Which types of parking facilities will be or are included in your database of available parking (e.g. public parking garages operated by a city or other public agency; public parking garages operated by a company; private parking at business locations; private parking at residences)?
- What are the advantages to the motorists seeking parking?
- What is the role (if any) of the city where your service is applied?
- What are the advantages to the city where the service is applied (e.g. less vehicles circulating in order to seek parking)?
- Do you have any quantitative evidence that your service reduces vehicle miles traveled associated with trying to find a parking space? If so please provide details.
- What are the costs to a user of your service over and above the direct cost of the parking fee charged by the parking provider?
- Do you provide advice to potential parking providers about a reasonable fee to charge for their parking spaces?
- What are the liability issues associated with your service (e.g. a vehicle damaged while parked at a parking facility of one of your suppliers of parking).
- What percentage of your customers are commuters who are looking for a weekday parking space on a continuing basis?
